Ways to keep your skin soft and shiny during winter
The weather during the winter season is not very suitable for the skin.
Cold and low humidity levels result in dry air, which in turn steals skin moisture throughout the day, the Telegraph reports.
Without immediate care, dry skin can lead to cracking and bleeding, and the harsh winter wind makes this problem even worse.
The inner heat of the skin further removes moisture air, as do hot showers and harsh cleansers.
Extra moisture helps, but you need to do more to counteract these effects and keep your skin younger and softer. To reduce cracks, redness, itching, and keep your skin healthy and comfortable this season, try these tips.
Rinse face with lukewarm water
Showers hot always feel good in winter, but when you can, especially when simply washing your face or hands, choose lukewarm water to avoid lifting as many oils away from the skin.
Use lotions immediately after cleansing your face
Your skin not only needs more moisture but even moisture immediately after washing. Applying creams on damp skin helps seal pores on the skin. Keep a bottle near the bathtub, shower stall and in each sink and use freely every time you clean.
Protect the skin
Get used to wearing gloves and scarves to protect your skin from cold winds, rain, and snow. Also, don't forget the sunscreen creams. Winter sun can be as harmful as the summer sun, so apply a safe option like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide to any exposed area.
Drink water
We tend to drink less water during the winter because we consume more hot drinks like cocoa and tea, but remember that your skin needs moisture from the inside out. A little lukewarm lemon water can be very refreshing and moisturizing at the same time.
Replace skin cleaners
Cleansers can be very dry for your skin. If you are accustomed to using options that contain glycolide or salic acid, they may be more moisturizing than the cream ingredients.
Use home-made masks
Home moisturizing masks can provide the needed moisture in the winter months. Use natural moisturizing ingredients such as honey, avocado, yogurt, olive oil, almond oil, bananas and aloe. Blend what you like together to create a cream, and leave it on the skin for 10-30 minutes for better skin hydration.
